Lip Smacker Vault

During the holidays I was always SO excited to get a Lip Smacker cane or tin in my stocking (seriously my favorite part of opening gifts) but check out this 42 piece Lip Smacker Vault they surprised us with for Cyber Monday! Can you imagine being gifted with this!? It's very limited from what I am told, so grab it here while you can. There are 36 Original & Best (some novelty, vintage and cupcake) Lip Smackers and 6 Biggies! Here is the breakdown of what comes in it:

Original & Best singles:
Vanilla, Watermelon, Dr. Pepper, Berry Peach, Bubble Gum, Cherry, Cotton Candy, Tropical Punch, Mango, Strawberry Cotton Candy, Kiwi, Wild Raspberry, Orange Sherbet, Pina Colada, Strawberry Cheesecake, Ice Cream Cake, Strawberry Watermelon, Cookie Dough, Strawberry Vanilla, Strawberry Glaze, Strawberry Frosting, Strawberry Banana, Sour Apple, Sour Grapes, Cinnamon Sugar, Caramel Corn, Grape Jelly, Ice Cream Sandwich, Red Velvet, Berry Buttercream, Birthday Cake, Strawberry Sprinkle, Cherry Snow Cone, Blueberry Pancake, Maple Bacon, Salted Pretzel

Cotton Candy, Vanilla Cream Soda, Watermelon, Dr. Pepper, Strawberry, Black Cherry

This is a great way to stock up on all of your favorites for yourself, buy it for a fellow Lip Smacker/lip balm fiend or break them up and add them onto multiple gifts and keep the vault for your own Lip Smacker storage.  I know any one I know doesn't go without getting a Lip Smacker added on to their gift ;). I hope next year Markwins will add exclusive flavors you can only get in the vault.

(Front and back of the box the Vault comes in)

Chocolate Hazelnut

In 2014, Lip Smacker released a special-edition rotating flavor every 3 months (quarterly), giving us brand-new, never before done Lip Smacker flavors. Chocolate Hazelnut appeared late that fall in all its Nutella inspired decadent glory. Leave it up to Lip Smacker to be the first to innovate a Nutella-esque flavor to tempt you to wear on your lips all day- no more dipping a spoon it the jar! Chocolate Hazelnut is a rich and creamy flavor and a good balance of both chocolate and hazelnut, very true to its namesake. Although it is no longer sold in stores, I wouldn't be surprised to see it make a reappearance in future collections as I don't see the Nutella trend going anywhere any time soon.

40+ years of Peppermint Lip Smackers, from every decade since the 1970's

The Peppermint Lip Smacker debuted for holiday 1976 in original Biggy-size and was quickly a favorite to the masses! Long before Burts Bee's, was the super-cooling, tingly and intense peppermint flavor of this iconic Lip Smacker. There have been many different delicious peppermint variations of Lip Smackers over the years but the original has stayed the same up until the 2014 'Flashback Favorites' 1970's trio, featured alongside Peach and Piece-a-Cake. Us loyalists quickly realized that the formula did not smell anything like the original. I created this as a homage as well as a plea for Markwins to bring back the original super-strong and cooling peppermint flavor many of us love and miss!

Merry Cherry Candy Cane

The Merry Cherry Candy Cane Lip Smacker swirled into the holiday 2002 Lip Smacker collection along with five other flavors. Merry Cherry Candy Cane was my instant favorite and I still think about this unique flavor every holiday. This still smells really strong and has the most refreshing and delicious cherry peppermint flavor. The formula is a light peachy-red and it has that strong cooling peppermint tingle we all reminisce over. There are no Lip Smackers that have been made since that smell like this or resemble this formula whatsoever. I have so many great memories of this flavor and love everything about Merry Cherry Candy Cane down the the amazing label design.

The Nightmare Before Frozen Wonderland?

Round 3 of the Tsum Tsum Lip Smackers have arrived and I'm really digging that Markwins went out on a limb and did the Nightmare Before Christmas' Jack and Sally Skellington along with Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland and Olaf from Frozen.

Sally- Peppermint Candy Corn- I was intrigued by this flavor the most out of this round and must say it's pretty good. I was thinking it was going to be the Mint Creme/Buttermint Frosting formula Markwins has been using a lot lately but it's definitely different. The peppermint is stronger (not exactly like 90's original Peppermint strong, but better than the recents) though the tingle is mild, the candy corn part comes through sweet and sugary, equally. This reminds me of the holiday 2002 Arctic Mallow Pet Pals Lip Smacker which was one-of-a-kind.

Jack- Pumpkin Spice Latte- Smells just like the Pumpkin Latte Lip Smacker which I always thought smells more like a sweet potato pie. I've smelled truer pumpkin spice latte flavors.

Cheshire CatPlumberry Wonderland is NOT the original Sugar Plum Lip Smacker mixed with something, it was very familiar at first sniff though. After taking some time I realized it smells very similar to the holiday 2002 Imaginary Berry Lip Smacker if you remember that. Also the same flavor Bonne Bell used for the Wildberry Starfruit Lip Fashion roll-on gloss if you had that. Good but not plum-y.

Olaf- Icy Truffle Treat is a creamy chocolate mint, very reminiscent of a York Peppermint Pattie. The mint is mildly tingly which I prefer my mint being very cooling but this does smell really good.

Overall a cute addition to the Tsum Tsum Lip Smacker collection and probably some of my favorite characters besides the Dumbo Tsum Tsum Lip Smacker. I did notice these ARE made in China, unfortunately, as I know many of you ask. The previous Tsum Tsum collections were 'Made in the USA with domestic and foreign parts.' I know this is a game changer for many but won't matter to Tsum Tsum collectors. As a Lip Smacker collector, I have accepted that these are more novelty balms than anything but I will not stand or support Original & Best Lip Smackers being made anywhere other than the USA which have been for their 43 years of existence.

Marvel Lip Smackers

Tsum-thing Sweet

As an old school Lip Smacker devotee, I must say the Disney Tsum Tsum Lip Smackers are pretty cute, and are a perfect fit for their partnership, moreso than the regular Disney Lip Smackers. Four new Tsum Tsums join the first four flavors- Minnie Strawberry Lollipop, Mickey Marshmallow Pop, Pooh Honey Pot and Stitch Blueberry Wave. Welcome the adorable Dumbo, Marie, Tigger and Donald Duck! These are made in the USA 'from foreign and domestic parts'. I'm guessing the balm part is filled in the USA and the character part/packaging is made in China.

As far as authenticity of flavors, I was really looking forward to Dumbo's Peanut Butter Shake. I must say it does not smell like a peanut butter shake unfortunately, more like salted caramel and peanuts is the best way to describe it. Not a smooth and creamy peanut butter like the Peanut Butter Girl Scout Cookie Lip Smacker flavor. Donald's Jelly Quackers is just like the Chilled Cranberry Grape from the Frozen Smackers, with an added bakery note for the cracker part. Tigger's Bouncy Bubble Gum is similar to the Easter Bubble Gum Eggs and I even catch a whiff of original Bubble Gum, almost as if they mixed the two. Marie's Love in Pear-y is a nice mellow pear flavor, not similar to past pear Lip Smacker flavors but still good. I know these are more a novelty but I feel like they could of put more effort into some of the flavors.

Gaga for Guava

I have to admit, back in the mid 90's when I discovered the Guava Lip Smacker in the Tropical Treasures six piece set, my flavor palate was unfamiliar with such exoticness and it felt so posh to have. I will never forget the flavor either, it was very fruity and a little sweet, not like any other Lip Smacker before it. My original has lost quite a bit of its flavor but I remember it vividly.
In 2010, Bonne Bell revived the fruity favorite, in original (alongside Pineapple and Coconut in a trio) and in a new 100% Natural Lip Smacker formula.  The formula sported a very different flavor profile than its 1990's one- this had a little more of a sour appeal, but still very different than any other Lip Smacker that has come around. The 100% Natural formula was very light but still had a similar fruity and sour finish. Guava is now rare again, so if you come across it, it's definitely a collectors piece.

Butterscotch Topaz dazzled onto the scene in 2000 alongside eleven other jewel-licious flavors. I immediately fell in love with Butterscotch Topaz (and of course every other Jewel Lip Smacker!) but Butterscotch Topaz remained my number one favorite! An authentic butterscotch disc flavor- just like the old fashioned candy! So sweet, so buttery and so superb! After the Jewel Lip Smackers were discontinued, I hoped for years Bonne Bell would bring it back, even as an original Lip Smacker. Not until holiday 2012 a butterscotch flavor appeared sporting a Beauty and the Beast label, but the flavor missed the mark. It was a caramel flavor in disguise (which I love caramel flavors) not the distinct butterscotch I came to love with Butterscotch Topaz. Fast forward to last holiday 2015 when Butterscotch reappeared and so did the amazing familiar formula I waited years for! It's a little lighter than Butterscotch Topaz but VERY similar.

Sriracha Smacker

The sweet and spicy Sriracha Smacker blazed on the scene this past January as part of the newly created 'Wacky Flavors' line along with the Horchata Lip Smacker. I was so excited to see two of my favorite things, Lip Smackers and Sriracha, come together! While it might seem a little bizarre, the flavor comes through 100%! Smells exactly like the famous fiery condiment! Not for the weak-at-heart. It even offers a glossy sheer red tint, to boot!

(I've been mixing it with Mango for a chili mango flavor)

Strawberry Lip Smackers Forever

May of 1973 brought us our first and favorite Lip Smacker, Strawberry. Interestingly enough, May is also now National Strawberry Month. What better way to celebrate than to pay tribute to all of the amazing strawberry flavors Lip Smackers has graced our lips with over the years. There are so many amazing strawberry concoctions that I want to hear your favorite!  I also created a poll to see which new strawberry flavors you'd loved to see Lip Smacker make (scroll to the bottom of the page to vote) to carry on the strawberry tradition. I'd love a strawberry licorice flavor that smells exactly like strawberry Twizzlers (hint, hint)! Since my last post on the iconic strawberry flavor, there have been quite a few more strawberry faves added to the flavor line-up. One of my personal favorites, Strawberry Cotton Candy is one of them! A super sweet and sugary-spun strawberry flavor, the best of two amazing flavors together. Strawberry Kiwi will always be near and dear to my heart, as I know it is for most, and needs to comeback pronto! Who am I kidding though, I'd be happy with any strawberry Lip Smacker since they're all done so well. The more, the merrier!

Flip Gloss

I miss Bonne Bell's Flip Gloss. Especially my favorite, Green Apple Spritz. It was the perfect green apple formula, one I have not found another just like since.
Flip Gloss debuted in January 2000 in eight luscious, flipping amazing flavors! Green Apple Spritz, Blueberry Splash, Strawberry Breeze, Vanilla FrostCaribbean Cooler, Triple Berry Cocktail, Pacific Pineapple Kiwi and Black Raspberry Ripple
In 2001, Flip Gloss Shimmers arrived in eight more shimmering flavors, rounding out a total of 16 flavors in the Flip Gloss family. Cherry Zinger, Watermelon Wave, Grape Gusher, Tangerine Dream, Sparkling Pear, Shimmering Mint, Rocket Pop and Lemon Lime Spritzer

Black Cherry

The dark and luscious Black Cherry Lip Smacker joined the original Lip Smacker line-up sometime in the late 1970's (date TBD). The sweet and succulent Smacker had quite a fan club of its own during its original release in the late 70's, that it's still a mystery why it took so long to stage a comeback. Luckily, in 2014, Bonne Bell/Aspire Brands brought it back after decades of hiding in the darkness, in the Flashback Favorites Biggy trio, along with Vanilla Cream Soda and Dr Pepper. Black Cherry was dressed to impress in a very familiar and stunning vintage wrap, paying homage to its original get-up. You can still purchase the trio today at Target, Rite Aid and Kmart or individually, here.

I know eggnog is not in season, but the Eggnog Lip Smacker will always be! Eggnog joined the original Lip Smacker line-up for holiday 1977. A sweet and creamy, nutmeg infused holiday staple that was featured as a single and also part of a Biggy cane. Biggy canes came with 5 BIGGY Lip Smackers, similar to how the mini trio canes come today (although they weren't called 'Biggy's' back then)! Can you imagine! Take note, Markwins.

Eggnog didn't make a comeback until holiday 2011. (Can you believe that the flavor gods at Bonne Bell kept it hidden from us for so long?!) Holiday 2011 brought us Chilled Eggnog and more recently holiday 2014 and 2015 as Whipped Eggnog. A light, creamy-sweet, nutmeg flavor. Still available on Lip Smackers website, here.

Around 2001, Bonne Bell released LiXtreme. A sporty, SPF 24, non-tinted cousin of the Lip Lix family. LiXtreme lip balms were available in 4 flavors: Wild Strawberry, Power Punch, Raspberry Riptide and Boardin' Berry. I was CRAZY over these! Not only were the caps amazing, the flavors were all delicious. The Wild Strawberry was exactly like strawberry Sour Punch Straws candy, minus the sour. Power Punch was a delicious fruity punch with an obvious tangerine and soft coconut that come through. Raspberry Riptide reminded me of the Rocket Pop Flip Gloss they did, a sharp blue raspberry flavor and Boardin' Berry was a berry punch flavor. There are no current Lip Smacker flavors that are dupes of these and there really have never been. These were around for too short of a time and I cherish the two I have left which are thankfully still holding their scent!

Strawberry Sundae

As you know, Lip Smacker is and has always been the queen of delicious strawberry flavors.
The sweet and ultra-rare Strawberry Sundae Lip Smacker first appeared on the scene around 1996-1997 in a special strawberry promotion, alongside Strawberry Chocolate and Strawberry Banana. While Strawberry Banana stayed for the long-run and joined the original line-up, Strawberry Chocolate and Strawberry Sundae remained limited edition and still have yet to be released again.

Chocolate Milk and Chocolate were two 90's staples! Neither made it out of the 90's (sadly), but there have been many chocolate flavors since. I have not seen either formula redone and passed off as something else, believe it or not. Fun fact: I've heard from quite a few sources that Britney Spears absolutely adored the Chocolate Lip Smacker!

Smoothie moves

Rolling right off the assembly line and right onto store displays are 6 brand-new Smoothie Chillerz Lip Smackers. The Smoothie Chillerz deliver a refreshing, cooling sensation on the lips. Joining the line-up of 8 that launched back in January are;

My Cherry Amour- A tart and tangy cherry-orange flavor. The orange is a little more obvious than the cherry when it's on the lips, making it smell more punchy. It's a strong satsuma orange, too.

Pineapple Splash- DELICIOUS! Just like the original Pineapple Smacker! Not getting any apple but I will update if it comes through more.

Watermelon Twist- Another winner! Although light, it's a watermelon lemonade flavor. So refreshing and reminiscent of the ever-so-popular Bath & Body Works Watermelon Lemonade line. Very different than the original Watermelon Lip Smacker, but still great and the lemon makes it even more unique.

All Peachy- Just like the name implies, ALL peach; just like the original Peach Lip Smacker and the most recent Peach Sunset (same formula).

It's B-A-N-A-N-A-S- Pretty much the same formula as the Banana Berry Skittles Smacker- still great!

Fruity Fun- As someone who isn't a fan of none-descriptive flavor names, still a good flavor; it has strawberries, pomegranates and either blueberries or acai berries on the label. It reminds me of the current original Red Raspberry formula with a bright but light citrus notes, not orange-y though.

These are available now and sold as singles at Rite Aid and Kmart as well as on www.lipsmacker.com. Below are the first 8 Smoothie Chillerz that launched back in January.

Jamaican Me Berry Crazy - Smells like red Swedish Fish/ Sour Patch Kids Redberry candy!

Mango Madness- Smells like a lighter version of original mango-very juicy.

Pomegranate Zing- Although it has passion fruits and no pomegranates on the wrap, this a definitely a pomegranate only flavor, more smooth than tart pomegranate.

Honeydew Kiwi- A very fruity flavor- I smell more kiwi than honeydew, but they both come through pretty strong.

Coco Loco- Honestly, my least favorite- I get a minty coconut and not in a good way. Not very well executed.

Citrus Squeeze- Love this one- very different than any oranges or lemons Lip Smacker currently makes. I get a tart and bubbly lime, lemon and orange in this. Very refreshing!

Oh Mai Acai- Not what I was expecting, almost a sweet blue raspberry flavor but it also makes me think fruity cotton candy. I always think acai smells similar to blueberries in many flavors and scents.

Vanilla Orange Zest- Very much like all Lip Smacker creamsicle flavors (the more recent Cream Pop, Orange Cream Egg, etc.).
